History:
Everybody’s Quilt Guild began in October 1987 by a group of women who wanted to share their love of quilting. Guild members met in the individual homes of the members until they started growing. As the Guild grew, it became a charter member of the National Quilting Association. Today, Everybody’s Quilt Guild is still growing and has over forty active members.
Meetings & Membership:
Everybody’s Quilt Guild meets the first Wednesday of each month to conduct the business of the guild, engage in fellowship, and share quilting news and information. The meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. at St. John Church on Monroe Street in Westminster, Maryland. Anyone interested in the guild is invited to attend a maximum of two meetings as a guest before becoming a member. Membership dues are $24.00 and two fat quarters per year. A mid-month meeting is held on the third Wednesday of each month. This meeting is open to all who wish to participate in additional guild activities.
Programs and Workshops:
Our monthly meetings are designed to educate members in new as well as traditional quilting techniques and to promote the art of quilting in all of its forms. In addition to our regular monthly meetings, the guild sponsors several hands-on workshops throughout the year covering a variety of quilting techniques and related subjects. Past programs and workshops have featured Rose Hahn, Lee Ann Paylor, Karen K. Buckley, and Vivian Leidy.
Events and Community Outreach:
One of the big events that Everybody’s Quilt Guild hosts is a Miniature Quilt Bingo every year in the spring. It is a fun evening for guild members and guests. The Guild also hosts a bi-annual quilt show. The quilt show, “Fall Harvest of Quilts” is held in the beginning of October during even numbered years. You can find the locations and dates of these events listed on the calendar page of our web site.
Year round, Everybody’s Quilt Guild focuses on community projects in which the art of quilting is used to promote a worthy cause. Breast cancer pillows are collected and donated to the Women’s Place at Carroll Hospital Center and other area facilities as needed. Everybody’s Quilt Guild also supports ABC quilts for babies with serious illnesses and, as part of the quilt show, has Miniature Quilt Silent Action with half of the proceeds going to a local charity.
Fun Stuff:
Show and Tell - This is a time to show your quilt, wall hanging, or clothing project that you have worked on for so long. No need to be intimidated, the guild embraces all skill levels from beginner to advanced.
Member’s Block Exchange - When you join Everybody’s Quilt Guild your name is placed on a list. Every three months a name is announced and a stipend is given to that person to purchase fabric. It is then passed with the member’s instructions to guild members who would like to participate in making a block.
Block of the Month - Learn a new technique every month and a chance to win enough blocks to make a top.
